How Long Do You Hug?
I heard a beautiful fact. When you work at Disneyland, the characters are not allowed to end a hug. Period. When a child approaches them, they let the child let go first. The child chooses. Think about this. Think about the message in this. Think about the strength in this. Think about the grounding in this.
“I am here for as long as you need or want.”
“I have plenty of time for you.”
“Please take all the support and warmth that you want.”
“You are all that’s important right now.”
“I am here for you and here to be with you.”
This is part of what makes Disneyland magical.
What if we choose to do the same? What if you let yourself stay until you are ready to release? And what if you stay until the other is ready as well? Wouldn’t you feel safer, warmer, more grounded and cared for? Wouldn’t you feel held? How long would you hug? Sometimes it might be longer. What if you let yourself not let go until you feel full?
Wouldn’t that be an amazing hug?
